life painting

Erin has been so diligent at posting about her amazing watercolour class, so I thought it was about time I did a post on my class too. I am learning about the wonderful art of oil painting, it’s so much fun. It’s so nice to try a new medium after painting in watercolour for such a long time – I feel like I have learnt so much in such a short amount of time…

Haven’s Kitchen

Erin told us about Haven’s Kitchen, a cooking school just down the street.  Not only is it a cooking school but it’s also a specialty food shop and event space.  It’s so beautifully done- it’s in a quaint carriage house with an elegant and inviting atmosphere.  They have a wide variety of classes from Meatless Mondays to tea tastings- I want to take them all!  The classes specialize in delicious, sustainable and seasonal food.  Good for you, good for our world!

sur les bicyclettes

Whilst we were in Paris we rented Velib bicycles and had a marvellous time cycling through the beautiful streets, humming along to Yves Montand songs. I enjoyed it so much that I pulled out and dusted off my bike. Although I love cycling in New York, I do get a little scared of those crazy taxi drivers so I’m excited to try out www.ridethecity.com - where you can find the safest routes through nyc! And for those of you in London, I just stumbled across Bobbin Bicycles. They have a fabulous array of beautiful wheels and it’s where I found these great photographs – Ride on…

live the language

These are some screen shots taken from four short films created by EF International Language Centres. One for: Paris, London, Barcelona and Beijing. Each film is beautifully directed and the typographic design is just exquisite. It makes me want to run of to Paris with my french books in tow and find my own bel homme!

Terrariums

A friend of mine was given a Terrarium yesterday for her birthday and it remined me how much I love them. They’re tiny little gardens, which is great for those of us who live in tiny new york apartments! This one was lovingly cultivated at Sprout in Williamsburg, one of my absolute favourite plant stores.

Petite plates

It’s no secret that we go ga-ga for anything that’s itsy bitsy or teeny tiny… so when I stumbled across PetitPlat recently I was thrilled! Stephanie Kilgast has a masters degree in architecture, and is using her super duper skills to create super tiny food art! It’s times like these I wish I was a couple of inches high…

Colour your world

Aussie company Jellybean Bikes has launched these totally customisable and totally adorable bicycles. Imagine cruising down the Hudson River on one of these colourful little gems with a basket of yummy treats and the wind in your hair… the ultimate weekend getaway. I want one i want one i want one.

Easter Eggs

After a very indulgent weekend full of wonderful food and too much chocolate to mention, I thought I would post some of my favourite Easter ideas on etsy. From the top: an adorable little robin’s nest from ShabbyChic Cottage, pretty vintage hymnal eggs from pumpkin papers, cute speckled eggs from green baboon designs, and finally these beautifully coloured, hand dyed eggs from Syrendell.

Little Animals

snoof…
grrrr…
burble…
 snoof snoof…

Look at these loveable little guys created by the rather talented Sian Keegan. They’re all beautifully hand-crafted from thrift store and vintage fabrics and she even teaches classes, so you can make your very own cute little animal…

Recipes and resolutions

Try your hand at pavlova’s… a delicious Aussie dessert

My mother always used to tell me that if you can read, you can cook. I never really believed her, as I have been able to read for many years now and still am not any closer to achieving chef-dom. I was recently inspired to learn, however, by an Australian recipe blog called Trotski & Ash. The photographs are really beautiful, the recipes are easy to follow, and each one comes with a lovely backstory that will make you feel both hungry and nostalgic. Wish me luck! Oh, and Happy New Year!

YOGA

photograph of Malachi Melville by Saam Gabbay photography
I think some people dislike yoga because they have never actually had a good teacher.  Once you find your match, you will crave going to class!  I have found two teachers I absolutely adore.  Jen G. teaches at Kula Yoga in NYC and Malachi Melville teaches at Yoga Works in LA (seen above).  I like both of them because they are not too over the top with yoga language, spirituality, etc.  They both give a terrific workout and you just get a sense that they are good, nice, relaxed people.

PURL

I am not a knitter or a sewer, but each time I walk by Purl’s lovely little storefronts, I wish that I was. They have two charming stores in SoHo- Purl and Purl Patchwork- just down the street from one another. They also offer classes in knitting, crocheting, sewing and quilting.
