Bubbie’s Sauerkraut
I add a spoonful of sauerkraut to my meals whenever I can. It's great for gut microbiome and aids in digestion. I like Bubbies Sauerkraut for the taste and for the many anti-cancer benefits that come from cruciferous vegetables like cabbage.
Bragg Nutritional Yeast
With its nutty and cheesy favor, I sometimes substitute nutritional yeast for cheese. It's great for soups and sauces and sprinkling on popcorn. It’s packed with B vitamins and a good source of fiber, zinc, and protein too. Doesn't hurt that it also helps to strengthen your immune system. I make my Brain-Boosting Pesto with it - it’s great with crackers or on Capello’s pasta!
blue mountain organic nuts
I buy my nuts at Blue Mountain. I value their high quality standards and large assortment of sprouted items. Sprouting causes the nut to germinate, or come alive, releasing the nutrients inside and making them available and easier to absorb. Sprouting de-activates phytic acid that binds to minerals and escorts them out. Eat walnuts for their high omega 3 content and brain boosting benefits. Eat 2 Brazil nuts a day for all the selenium you need. And, splurge on their large macadamia nuts!
Eden Arame
Sea vegetables are loaded with nutrients (up to 20x more than land vegetables) and are an incredible source of iodine, iron, and vitamin C. Amy Chaplin's Quick Marinated Arame recipe in her cookbook, Whole Food Cooking Every Day, is my favorite way to eat Arame. I purchase my sea vegetables from Eden Foods. You can find the Arame recipe here.
BRagg extra virgin olive oil
EVOO (extra virgin olive oil) is the highest quality olive oil, filled with antioxidants and polyphenols. Bragg’s organic EVOO is unrefined, which means no chemicals or heat were used to extract the oil. EVOO has a low smoke point, so best to use it for dipping, salad dressings or light sautéing rather than high heat cooking.
HEINTZMAN FARMS DAKOTA FLAX
I order my organic flax seeds from Heintzman Farms. Full of omega-3s, antioxidants, and fiber, they pack a punch. All flax seeds have a tough outer hull and need to be ground in order to be digestible. You really don’t benefit from eating them whole unless you are chewing them very, very well! I freshly grind them in a coffee or spice grinder rather than purchasing them ground, as their oils are delicate and can go rancid quickly.
Eden Dulse Flakes
We could all use a little more seaweed- so many vitamins and minerals, especially iodine, in these tiny flakes. Using Dulse Flakes is an easy way to add nutrition to your diet. I sprinkle them on just about everything - salads, soups, eggs, vegetables, rice, pasta, potatoes, avocado toast, you name it. Eden Dulse comes from from Grand Manan Island, New Brunswick, Canada and is sustainably hand-harvested and certified organic.
